Non EU/EFTA citizens: self-employed

Non-EU/EFTA citizens can come to Switzerland to open a business but must hold a work permit and live in the country before starting the process.

They are subjected to the same quotas regulations regarding B and L permits than non-EU/EFTA employees.

Applicants must be able to prove that the business will positively influence the Swiss market by creating jobs for locals, by investing in the country and by contributing to the local economy. Therefore, the business plan must be strong and convincing.

Additionnally, autorities will require a proof of the business inscription to the “registre du commerce” to deliver the necessary permit (http://rc.ge.ch/ecohrcmatic/).
